Power of Pilates -2009

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you all had a good break and are raring to go again. I have already had several emails asking for lots of abdominal work in the classes, so it seems I am not alone in the over indulgence of ‘all things bad’ during the past few weeks!

If there is anything you would like to see in the newsletter in 2009, please forward your suggestions to: Claire via email

2009 classes

The new classes start next week so be quick if you still need to book your place! As always, places are available to book online: click here to book your class.

Remember, these are your classes – so if there is something you want to achieve, be it more hamstring flexibility, balance, stronger arms or just lots of core work – please tell us and we can try to help incorporate your aims into the session.

Boot Camps Are Back!

Many of you have been asking for another Pilates Bootcamp to work off the Christmas excesses and I am pleased to confirm the dates and times below:

Sat 31st Jan: 10:00am
Sat 31st Jan: 11:30am
Sat 7th Feb: 10:00am

The classes will last for an hour and a half and will be held at the Power of Pilates Studio, Lower Earley. Please email me email Claire to reserve your space. Places will be allocated on first come, first served basis so please let me know your preferred session as soon as possible. The cost will be £10.00 per session and payment must be received by 23rd Jan in order to hold your place

Post Natal Classes

Following the success of the post natal class in 2008, we are continuing it for 2009. The class will be on Thursday at 9.30am, and helps to solve the problem of childcare by inviting you to bring along your baby. The babies generally sleep / stay by your side, but as you can see from the photos, some just like to copy mum!

Welcome

I am delighted to introduce Claire McMillan and Jenny Power who will be taking regular classes from Jan 09. Some of you have met Claire and Jenny previously and I am sure you will give them a warm welcome in their new classes! Claire has lots of ante and post natal experience and Jenny comes from a dance background, so their experience will bring new challenges to keep you on your toes!

Back to Basics

The New Year is as good as time as any to really start thinking about your Pilates technique and making sure that you are not just ‘going through the motions’. It is easy to fall into the trap of moving to the next level and making things harder, but the basics can be pretty tough if you are engaging the correct muscles and doing them properly!

Remember you’re ABC (alignment, breathing, core) and focus on executing the movements with control and precision. Pilates is not a race to see who can finish the quickest, the slower you perform the movement, the harder you are working.

As Joseph Pilates said: "A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion."
