Pilates is still one of the fastest growing exercises in the country and the studio allows us to provide additional value and service to you, with a wider range of classes, more bootcamps and some exciting new events.

The Power of Pilates studio is located at No. 1 Chalfont Court , near the Asda complex in Lower Earley and the first 100 sign ups for the 2009 classes at the studio will receive a complimentary goody bag.

“I have a holistic attitude to health - it has to be a combination of physical, spiritual and emotional care. It’s about listening to your body. I try to put aside an hour a day, five days a week, to do some sort of physical exercise, whether it’s Pilates or running in the park.

Fund raising

Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed in the Breast Cancer Awareness week. So far we have raised £257.07. I have left the link open on the webpage as I know a few of you still wanted to donate as you were away that week. The page will close on Friday 19th December and I will release the final amount in the Jan 09 newsletter.

Stress Busting Moves

Christmas is supposed to be the most stressful time of year and it is easy to neglect your body with the constant round of parties, visitors and gift buying. Your body can suffer through stress and over indulgence; we are estimated to consume an average of 6000 calories on Christmas Day alone!

Here’s a few simple things you can do to help keep you healthy over the holidays!

  • Check your posture: don’t slouch on the settee or let the tension creep in on your shoulders. Use shoulder bridge, roll downs, windows and pole raises to keep your back and shoulders mobile
  • Keep hydrated: swap every other alcoholic drink for water
  • Use your core: keep your tummy in place with lots of core work. Doesn’t matter if it is while you are playing games on the Wii or a dedicated session of Pilates, keep those core muscles at 30% and think about your posture!
  • Veg out: Have lots of vegetables to increase your nutrients
  • Keep moving: a brisk walk, some Pilates…
  • And relax! Shoulder drops, pelvic tilts, neck rolls and chin tucks are perfect relaxation moves.

We look forward to seeing you in 2009!
