Claire McMillan - Your Pilates instructor

Claire McMillan

I was introduced to Pilates in 2000 when I was training to run the London Marathon. I instantly enjoyed the classes and the effect it had on me and my training. I continued with the Pilates classes long after the running stopped. In 2003 I trained to teach aerobics and undertook pilates training the following year.

As well as Pilates I also teach a post-natal exercise class called Buggyfit and I often incorporate Pilates techniques and theories into my classes. I believe that the benefits for post-natal women are incredible - not just for toning stomach muscles, but also for regaining strength in pelvic floor muscles and counteracting the effect of carrying a baby around on one hip and the damage that this does to your posture. Several of my Buggyfit class also go to Claire’s Pilates classes - which is how I met Claire.

I find Pilates very calming and relaxing. As a mum of 2 small children life can be pretty hectic. Pilates gives me an hour of focusing completely on the exercise and putting everything else out of my mind, something that is a rarity in the rest of the day.

I feel so passionately about the benefits of Pilates that I encourage everyone I meet to try it; Power of Pilates allows people to try Pilates in a small class group, ensuring that they can receive attention and that all exercises are undertaken safely and correctly.
